Venetia Valley School contributed to the Fun at the Annual SRCS HeadsUp Carnival Fundraiser

Thank you to all community members who came out, helped out and rocked out to raise funds in support of our students and enrichment programs.  Here are photos and video:  HeadsUp Carnival 2019.

Venetia Valley School presented our Bilingual Program to the SRCS Board of Trustees

Venetia Valley School is the home of the first bilingual program in Marin County.  It's founding and endurance come from our community's long standing appreciation and support for bilingualism and bi-culturalism.  Bilingual education intrinsically adds equity to our school and has been instrumental to our progress in closing the achievement gap.  Here are photos and video from our Bilingual Ed Board Presentation

Spelling Bee Champions to Compete at Regionals

Venetia Valley School is proud of our spelling champs and the curiosity and grit reflected in their studies.  Our champions work hard for everything they earn. 4th grader Brandon and 6th grader Valentina are students in our Bilingual Program.  By competing so well in this English competition, they are demonstrating how effectively Spanish language skills transfer to English in our program. 5th grade Cole also showed amazing progress.  Last year, he spelled three of the challenging words correctly.  This year, he nearly swept the competition and came in second place.  Cole is grateful to his family's support, particularly that of his big brother Caden, who won first place in the San Rafael Regional Spelling Bee last year ,and was willing to share his study techniques.  6th grade spelling champion Emmanuel has also emerged as an outstanding competitor with the most important quality - sportsmanship in remembering to offer caring congratulations to everyone who came out to compete.

The work is not over for our spelling champs.  They are still hard at work studying for the upcoming San Rafael Regionals to take place Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. at the County Office of Education – 1111 Las Gallinas Avenue, San Rafael.  Who will win? Who can tell?  The suspense is mounting.  We wish our young representatives well.

Cultivating Wellness

At our annual Wellness Fair, Venetia Valley middle school students were taught social-emotional tools and provided a chance to stop and reflect on how to work on their selves and in support of peers.  The positive affirmations in the pin wheel activity were healing.  The succulent planting activity gave students pause to appreciate little pleasures, create a symbol for how they can cultivate growth and experience a moment to feed their souls.  Staff gave up their lunch to be present and be in community with students, so that everyone could remember that when things get hard we have each other.  It was a great kickoff to our Suicide Prevention Week.  Our middle schoolers appreciated the focus and how they can now point to another moment they feel good about.

Venetia Valley STEAM Students Win Top Honors at 2019 Marin County Fair

In a competitive field with DMS, Marin Country Day and Mark Day students, ALL FIVE Venetia Valley projects won ribbons recognizing our students' creativity, grasp of complex interdisciplinary concepts and dedication to STEAM studies and their specific, diverse, self-selected, areas of inquiry.  Topics included:

  • CO2 Reduction (Second Year)-  1st place Best of Show, among class entries
  • ESP Studies- Precognition and Telepathy- 2nd place
  • Alternate Sources of Energy- 2nd place
  • Paranormal Investigation- Ghosts- 3rd place
  • Robotics- 3rd place

Students thought out-of-the-box, continuously demonstrating passion, grit and perseverance, especially as the Fair date approached.  They rose to the challenge of busy schedules, managed their time like professionals and look forward to continuing their investigations.  Venetia Valley is proud our students and our capacity to offer significant learning experiences, motivated by student interests and experiences.  STEAM studies are highly relevant in today's world and have the potential for breakthrough results.  Special thanks to Community Member Fred Fielding for generously giving of his time and expertise as a resource to facilitate our students' academic growth.

VV Pride Week a Success

For VV students, staff, and community members, pride was shining with caring, shared experiences, historical context, science, and the sense of our role in the arc of social justice. Happy Pride!

VV Community at the Dipsea Race

On June 9th, five VV 3rd-7th graders, two VV teachers, and one VV parent ran the majestic and challenging Dipsea Trail race - immersing themselves in the competitive running community of Marin. We congratulate them on their strategic training and execution and for competing with joy and heart.
